Decided to take it easy and do the 40, we don't have mountains in Michigan. Other than I had to walk 2 hills because of arthritis in my feet, the 40 was very do-able, and we will do the metric next year!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4630751179432853395.post-78632496719275999712012-08-28T11:46:39.353-04:002012-08-28T11:46:39.353-04:00Hi,

I felt that the ride was extremely well laid out and the support was terrific. We completed the 3 State 3 Mountain century in TN in May. I thought that was a terrific ride and was tentatively considering doing it again next year. After participating in the Breakaway, I feel that the TN ride doesn't compare. The Breakaway has just the right amount of challenge and the views were spectacular. We will be participating in the 2013 Breakaway. Thank you and all of the other volunteers for such a wonderful experience. As for anonymous and their video, some people are never happy. If you don't want to deal with cyclists on your roads for one day, then stay home for the day or take a vacation. The date of the event is not a secret, plan accordingly. Thanks again for the excellent ride and we are looking forward to riding next year.Alex L.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4630751179432853395.post-10540386816658598542012-08-22T22:57:01.729-04:002012-08-22T22:57:01.729-04:00While watching the riveting video capturing all of...While watching the riveting video capturing all of the criminal activity at the intersection, I could not help but notice that most of the motorized vehicles came through the intersection with the yellow caution flashing lights much faster than the cyclists. I also noted one law-abiding citizen actually stopped at the intersection , while the other vehicles behaved just as the cyclists--coming to a rolling stop and then continuing.

As for the "roads being overrun with cyclists", there was hardly mob of cyclists coming through that intersection.

Anonymous, stop whining about an event that brings Haywood County good PR (and $$)!ironduff120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4630751179432853395.post-80176771296438710422012-08-21T16:01:41.614-04:002012-08-21T16:01:41.614-04:00Well, here is your post published. Yes, cyclists s...Well, here is your post published. Yes, cyclists should obey the laws just as motorists should obey the laws. Had a cyclist pulled out in front of you and been hit, "the idiot" in your words, would have been at fault. In your video, I note that the vast majority of cyclists were coming up to the stop sign, slowing, reviewing the safety of the movement and then going forward. Was that a legal stop? In Idaho yes - in N.C. no. Interestingly, you don't bother to point out that both of the trucks in your video did the SAME EXACT BEHAVIOR, i.e., they pulled to the sign, assessed the situation, and moved forward without coming to a full and complete stop. I'm willing to bet that their behavior was many, many times more dangerous than the same behavior by the cyclists. (That isn't to excuse the cyclists' behavior - just to put it in context.) As an organizing group, we do everything we can possibly do to remind participants that they are on open roads and are bound by the rules governing vehicles, which includes stopping at stop signs unless an officer of the law is providing security and waving them through. I am absolutely confident that your video shows nothing that doesn't get repeated by motorists every day multiple times all over our county. I know that to be true because I see it every day. Perhaps you'll want to broaden your criticisms of cyclists to include all vehicle operators that violate the law. Maybe you can also include severly dangerous motorists talking on cell phones, etc. I'll bet you'd have many people supporting your efforts to make the roads safer.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01296442059471583594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4630751179432853395.post-90100923902816221592012-08-21T15:27:14.097-04:002012-08-21T15:27:14.097-04:00How about addressing the fact that most of your pa...How about addressing the fact that most of your participants were ignoring traffic laws- I am sure this comment will never make it past moderation for the truth of the behavior of the riders to be seen, but at least someone will see it. Next year those of us sick of our roads being overrun with cyclists not following the law will be filming at multiple locations all day- we can then use the tapes to get this event cancelled for good if the participants can't follow the laws they expect everyone else on the road to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTmHP2eV-zYAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
